Reconnecting with familiar voices, one story at a time with voice-cloning AI: The mission of detour

In the hustle & bustle of our daily lives, we take for granted the voices of our loved ones, not appreciating their importance until it's too late. This realization struck me profoundly as I sat at my mother’s bedside in her final weeks. Engrossed in conversation, it never occurred to me that it could be the last time I would hear her voice.

It was later, in a quiet moment of reflection, that a deep yearning to hear her voice again surfaced within me. But her voice was lost  forever. This personal loss is what inspired me to create detour and I wanted to share with you the heart of detour's mission and its significance for each of us.

We celebrate life's milestones and mourn our losses. Yet, as time marches on, even the most poignant memories can recede into the backdrop of our busy lives. This isn't a critique, but rather an observation of a universal human truth: our inherent need to move forward.

Yet, there are moments, often unexpected, when a memory comes to the surface, bringing with it a longing to hear a voice that has been silenced by time. It’s an experience shared by many of us, whether we’ve lost a grandparent, parent, child, sibling, or friend. The loss of their voice, that unique hallmark of their identity, creates a void nothing else can fill.

detour is designed to bridge this gap. It is more than just an app; it's a portal to cherished memories and defining moments. As a voice-cloning platform, detour allows users to upload recordings of their loved one’s voice, select a favorite story, and then listen as they’re taken back to happier times through the power of storytelling.

Preserving the voices of our loved ones helps us maintain a timeless connection to our past. It becomes a personal treasure, offering comfort and a sense of ongoing connection. detour is about capturing the essence of those we've lost, keeping alive a part of them in our daily lives.

The mission of detour is deeply personal. It responds to those moments when a memory is triggered, and you find yourself longing to relive a conversation, a laugh, or a piece of advice. detour is here to make that possible.

In our professional lives, we recognize the impact of innovation and technology in transforming human experiences. detour melds this transformative potential with the deep, emotional human need to connect and remember. It goes beyond preserving a voice; it's about honoring a life, a relationship, and cherished memories.

Why the name detour? Much like a physical detour when going on a journey that leads you along an alternative, serendipitous path, detour offers a deeply personal and emotionally resonant shift away from traditional, non-personalized mental-wellness and audiobook experiences.

I invite you to join me on this journey with detour. Whether you've experienced this kind of loss or understand the profound effect of keeping memories alive, your support and insights are welcomed. Together, we can redefine how we preserve and cherish the voices of those who have left us, ensuring that they continue to be a vibrant part of our stories and our lives.

We're currently in private-beta and I would be delighted to have friends and colleagues be among the first to experience detour. Please consider this a warm invitation to join our journey. Warmest, Peter
